Direct overseas urchase by South Koreans through online order jumed in the first half on strong demand for Chinese roducts, customs office data showed Friday.
The direct urchase of foreign goods amounted to 1.32 billion US dollars in the January-June eriod, u 35 ercent from the same eriod of last year, according to the Korea Customs Service.
The growth rate was about three times faster than the total rising rate in imorts of 13 ercent.
Direct urchase for Chinese roducts increased raidly. The number of direct buying of Chinese electronic roducts was 882,000 in the first half, surassing last year's figure of 880,000.
The best-selling roduct in the direct overseas urchase was the US health functional food, whose direct urchase reached 2.6 million US dollars in the first half. It was u 33 ercent from a year earlier.
China's market share advanced to 23 ercent in the first half from 17 ercent a year earlier, while the US share fell from 56 ercent to 53 ercent in the same eriod.
By age, South Koreans in their 30s was the biggest direct buyer of overseas roducts, accounting for 47 ercent of the total. It was followed by those in their 40s with 24 ercent and those in their 20s with 20 ercent.
